Censorship Office takes part in Combine Destruction of Exhibits

The Office of Censorship, National Drug & Vice Squad (NDVS) and the Boroko District Court came together on Friday, the 20th of January 2017 at Koukou beach just outside Port Moresby for the combine destruction of court exhibits from 2016.
The Chief Censor, Mr. Steven Mala authorised the released of prohibited items for destruction which were 144 pieces of DVDS in various titles, 47 pieces of 16 in 1 DVDs, 169 pieces of CDs and 63 pieces of Sex Enhancement Products (SEPs).
Senior Enforcement Officer, Mrs. Poveta Posa said since these were unclaimed publications, and as stated in the Classification of Publication (Censorship) Act of 1989, under section 81 on disposals of unclaimed publications, it is now by law that these publications must be disposed.
While on behalf of the National Drug and Vice Squad and the Boroko District Court, Senior Sergeant Bruno Morgan also released the total number of marijuana pacts and plants for destruction which were 569 packs of marijuana and 618 plants with a total weight of 453. 15 kilograms.
Sergeant Morgan said the marijuana plants were uprooted by the National Drug and Vice Squad from several of their operations in 2016.
He said the marijuana packs and plants were retained by the National Drug & Vice Squad and were used as court exhibits in the Boroko District Court.
All these drugs were destroyed together with the prohibited items from the Office of Censorship in a bonfire.
Present to witness the destruction were Senior Enforcement Officer, Mrs. Poveta Posa, Senior Sergeant Bruno Morgan from the National Drug and Vice Squad and Paul Sarevela, Clerk of Court at the Boroko District Court together with their respective staff.
Senior Enforcement Officer, Mrs. Posa was very pleased to work alongside the National Drug & Vice Squad and the Boroko District Court and thanked them for the partnership with these agencies in the destruction of prohibited items.
